We came across each other on an activist forum and then I had the chance to meet Qavi in London where he had obtained a ticket for me to hear Robert Fisk. We had a lovely chat and was an inspiration to me. I shall miss him. He was an integral part of The Citizens Foundation (TCF) and his invaluable support and commitment helped hundreds of underprivileged children get a quality education they deserve. It's like we did not really know him as an individual but only as a donor. In our few telephone calls when I tried to arrange a meeting with him, he used to tell me he was going to Palestine but I did not realise to what level he was involved in. I feel upset that I did not get to know this incredible side to such a remarkable man from whom I could have learned so much. He is such an inspiration. I will remember you in my prayers and when I visit Palestine in' sha' Allah, I will come and see the noble work you did and hear stories about all the lives you touched. May He envelope you in His Mercy and grant you the highest level in jannah (heaven). Qavi sahib is affectionately remembered by us all. The Muslim Institute, indeed the world, is poorer for the loss of this unique gentleman who dedicated his life to activism, learning and conscience.
Qavi sahib was a generous and culturally gifted man and many of us had the honour of visiting his beautiful home in Greenwich, London to sample his excellent cooking and partake in vibrant discussions. He was quick to identify those with a thirst for knowledge and inquiring minds, introducing them to the Muslim Institute at the earliest opportunity. He loved to bring people together, creating connections in an effort to support, enthuse, unite and challenge. He always took an interest in the wellbeing of others and offered advice, wisdom and comfort wherever he could.
The Muslim Institute Winter Gathering will not be the same without his wit, gentle chiding and excellent humour. Qavi sahib flew in from Palestine to attend last year's annual event and although some of us noticed that he seemed a little more frail than usual, we could not have imagined that it would be the last time we would be in this great man's presence.
Rest in peace Qavi sahib, may divine light and mercy shine on your infinite soul and your example continue to inspire us to fight injustice wherever we see it. With love and gratitude always for enriching our lives.
Samia Rahman, Muslim InstituteSamiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06048442646830743368noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2771563516536608026.post-56153267862567728302017-08-30T06:38:03.588-07:002017-08-30T06:38:03.588-07:00I had dinner with Qavi, along with Mazin and Jessi...I had dinner with Qavi, along with Mazin and Jessie, in Bethlehem in June of 2016. It was a great honor to have met him.
